The term race or racial group usually refers to the categorization of humans into populations or ancestral groups on the basis of various sets of heritable characteristics, but narrow definitions of a race or racial group are problematic. The physical features commonly seen as indicating race are salient visual traits such as skin color, cranial or facial features and hair texture. Conceptions of race, as well as specific ways of grouping races, vary by culture and over time, effectively functioning as folk taxonomies. Race serves to indicate essential types of individuals or fuzzy sets of people's traits.

When used as a biological term, race describes genetically divergent populations of humans that can be marked by common phenotypic and genotypic traits. The notion of race is widely used by forensic anthropologists, who analyse skeletal remains, and those involved in biomedical research and race-based medicine.. The term race should not be confused with subspecies because race is not an official biological taxonomy category. All modern-day humans belong to the same subspecies of Homo sapiens sapiens

While two individuals of the same geographically defined human populations will tend to be more similar to each other genetically than two individuals of different geographically defined human populations, there is no scientific basis for hierarchically organized categories based in race and ethnicity. Scholars in the fields of anthropology, sociology, biology, and genetics sometimes prefer to group shared traits along ethnic lines which correspond to a history of endogamy.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of racial and religious diversity?
Q. A course assignment requires me to examine both the strengths and weaknesses of racial and religious diversity. So on this topic, what are your believes for what you think both the strengths and weaknesses of racial and religious diversity?

A. Racial diversity? no real differences , except for resistance to different diseases. Religious diversity? no strength to religion, all weaknessess. Mankind will never grow up until they outgrow their infantile need to believe in a"god" to tell them right from wrong.

How common is racial bigotry in America?
Q. It seems to me that the 2008 Presidential election as uncovered horrible and (previously) hidden filth of racial bigotry. I mean, there are whole news stories now about people who are asked why they are voting for McCain and they openly answer, "Because I am prejudiced".

A. Well as a minority myself, I think that this election has basically helped bring to light what most minorities know, there is plenty of racial bigotry out there. I am surely NOT dumb enough to think that everyone is a racist. I know for fact everyone isn't one. However, there are some people who are and more openly about their prejudice then others. I think both camps are playing the race card, Obama because he is black and McCain because he is white. There are people are going to vote purely on race. Its reality. Is it smart? Hell No! McCain I am sure is counting on the fact that there are still some bigots out there to vote for him just because he is white. The same thing for Obama. As far as I am concerned, this election race is going… [cont.]
