What would you chose if you were J. K. Rowling struggling to make a living before the success of Harry Potter?
Q. What would you do if you were a single parent with a 3 years old child to take care of and worst of all have to depend on social security for a living. Imagine the above scenario, you have to choose between a stable income job that practically will occupied all your time or continue to work on your pet project which there is no certainty if and when the first paycheck will arrive. Well, the above scene played out in Edinburgh almost 10 years ago and the rest as they said, is history. The person that I am referring to is none other than Joanne Rowling, the world know her as J. K. Rowling, the best selling author of The Harry Potter series.

To J.K. Rowling, please give me all your tips on writing fantasy, who wants to be a writer 2 (and an actor)?
Q. I am writing my own fantasy series and I need all the help I could get, especially from J.K. Rowling, Christopher Golden, and Terry Goodkind. I'd really appreciate it if they see this and answer back right away

A. Oh honey, I doubt they'll come on here. But I guess if you don't ask you don't get. You could always look on Myspace or other websites to get in touch with authors; it's surprising how many will actually write to you or talk to you and give you advice. I was writing back and forth to Malorie Blackman recently, and she was really lovely. I'm always surprised when successful people deign to have casual conversations with fans and admirers, but they do. Kudos for trying :)

A. Okay seriously, Don't listen to half the answers. it was not a loan or anything. real publishing costs no money at all. Publishers PAY authors to publish their books. JKR did not self publish, so it didn't cost her any money.

A. search "J.K. Rowling" on the internet. See what kind of clothes she wears and how she usually wears her hair. I think she wears pretty normal clothes so that may be a little hard, but perhaps you can find a certain style (like a light brown skirt and blouse or something) that she usually wears. Good luck.

What chapter in the Deathly Hallows made J.K. Rowling break down in tears?
Q. I just finished reading the Deathly Hallows this weekend, and I recall reading news stories about J.K. Rowling becoming overwhelmed after finishing one of the chapters. My question is, does anyone have a link to an interview or anything where she reveals which chapter got to her? I'm not looking for "maybe it was this one, or maybe that one" type responses, I really just want to find out if she's actually revealed this now that the book has been released. Thanks!

A. JKR in her interview with Meredith Vieira: "I really, really, really cried after writing Chapter 34, which is where Harry walks back into the forest for what he thinks will be the last time It was because I had to live that with Harry and feel the weight of his disillusionment and his fear because he believes he's being sent to his death by Dumbledore who he saw wanted to keep him alive. So that was massively moving to me to write. "

Is J K Rowling allowing writers to write in the Potter universe?
Q. I've looked around and can't seem to find any info on it. I hear from some people she's undecided, and from some she's adamantly saying hell no.

A. Well Yes and No! Non profit Fanfiction she allows, this is when fans of the series write stories about the Harry Potter characters and in the Harry Potter Universe. But the key word here is non profit, they cannot be publishing books, making money on it. This is primarly people publishing stories online. She is positive to fanfiction, and her agent says it's flattering, and she herself has said she is ok with it as long as it doesn't contain racism or pornography. But even if some of them do contain these she has never taken action against FF. "Her lawyers confirmed the author would be happy for spin-offs to be published online, provided it was made clear she was not involved and the publications were not sold." Asked by titans1fan93 - Sat Dec 26 22:24:01 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It changed my perception of him, yes. I always thought that he had a deceased wife somewhere, but when JK let that piece of information out...well, I was surprised to say the least. It explained a few things. I just can't explain how I felt. I thought he was a manipulative strong man, but after hearing about his sexuality it softened him up for me a bit. It made me see that he was really depressed for lying to Harry in the seventh book and wasn't as cold and guarded as he seemed in the fifth book. It changed minor things in my mind about him like that.

Q. Why was J.K. Rowling so successful? Did she go through extra steps to make her book a bestseller that other authors don't? A. There really aren't "steps" she went through to make her books major bestsellers. Pure luck. One thing, though, that all successful authors have in something in common is the fact that they wrote for the sake of writing. A lot of people, especially aspiring authors here on Y!A, write for the intentions of trying to become a bestselling author, have their books be made into movies, or better yet, have their books become classics. That's the wrong approach. Rowling wrote Harry Potter, because she had a story to share. Whether they became bestsellers or not was most likely not a driving force behind her writing. I doubt she knew she would become a multibillionaire after only publishing seven books. How could it be? Especially since… [cont.]

A. Haven't read Dan Brown, but Rowling's series fell apart after the fifth book. Whatever gift she may or may not have had was gone at that point. Sales figures mean nothing. Just because people bought it doesn't necessarily mean they liked it. Besides, by the end HP had name recognition and was pretty much selling on that alone.

A. 7 horcruxes, 7 years at school, 7 Weasley children, 7 defense against the dark arts teachers, 7 is often referred to as a powerful magic number... ohh check this out The real shame is that these people are missing out on something as wonderful as the HP series. I pity them. And, it's not a spoiler that book 7 is two movies! That spoils nothing, and was like the best news I've had in a very long time. I almost peed my pants when I heard that.
