Fantasy is a genre that uses magic and other supernatural phenomena as a primary element of plot, theme, and/or setting. Many works within the genre take place in fictional worlds where magic is common. Fantasy is generally distinguished from science fiction in that it does not provide a logical (or pseudo logical) explanation for the scientifically impossible events that occur, though there is a great deal of overlap between the two (both are subgenres of speculative fiction).

In popular culture, the genre of fantasy is dominated by its medievalist form, especially since the worldwide success of The Lord of the Rings books by J. R. R. Tolkien. In its broadest sense however, fantasy comprises works by many writers, artists, filmmakers, and musicians, from ancient myths and legends to many recent works embraced by a wide audience today.

Fantasy is a vibrant area of academic study in a number of disciplines (English, cultural studies, comparative literature, history, medieval studies). Work in this area ranges widely, from the structuralist theory of Tzvetan Todorov, which emphasizes the fantastic as a liminal space, to work on the connections (political, historical, literary) between medievalism and popular culture.

What is a good fantasy book for people who traditionally don't like fantasy?
Q. I really want to try to dive into fantasy, reading it that is. But, whenever I try to read it, I usually get bogged down by pages upon pages of, what I consider, frivolous description and overly complex explanations of the fantasy world. So, I want to know some good fantasy books that won't, you know, say too much and simply show more. And, to help you a bit, I would love books with LGBTQ characters, but that is in no way a requirement. Thanks!

A. Graceling by Kristin Cashore Its a fantasy novel but the fantasy world is very similar to our "human" world so not much description is required in that part. But its a very exciting novel that I believe is going to be made into a series. In the course of her dark and eventful tale, Cashore plays with the idea of awkwardness, how at a certain age gifts and talents are burdens, how they make it impossible to feel comfortable in the world. And in this she writes a fairly realistic portrait of teenage life into the baroque courts of her outlandish kingdoms In many respects Graceling is a study of mysterious angers: it offers a perfect parable of adolescence, as its characters struggle with turbulent emotions they must learn to control. What order should i draft players in my fantasy baseball draft?
Q. Like in fantasy football, RB or QB r always taken 1st and kickers last. This is my 1st year playing fantasy baseball so any sidenote tips would be great too.

A. In comparison to football, baseball players taken in the first round usually accomplish the "five-tool" season (HR, RBI, batting average, SB, Runs), no matter what position they play. The first round always features "power" players (HR and RBI) with a couple of 20 HR-20 SB players. From then on, it just filling position... - 1B and 3B (along with a couple of SS) are usually the popular choices in the first round, one in which you can build a team around (players such as Pujols and A-Rod can definetely carry fantasy teams, much like how LaDainian Tomlinson can carry a fantasy football team). A lot of young stars are feature in this round also (H. Ramirez, Reyes, M. Cabrera, Fielder, and Howard), so you can't go wrong with any studs in the… [cont.]

Fantasy is a genre that uses magic and other supernatural forms as a primary element of plot, theme, and/or setting. Fantasy is generally distinguished from science fiction and horror by the expectation that it steers clear of scientific and macabre themes, respectively, though there is a great deal of overlap between the three (which are subgenres of speculative fiction).
