How come Africans in general look better than African Americans?
Q. I don't intend to offend any African Americans because im African. I lived in Africa(Uganda) for many years and i saw most of the best looking women. Most African Americans love wearing fake hair,(Like red hair, hair straightaning) and they still look ugly compared to many natural looking Africans. Some of them even have fake boobs yet Africans have real boobs. Is it because African Americans are not pure blood?

A. Sigh, it's amazing how everyone resorts to political correctness when they cannot answer a question. Though you worded this in a very harsh way, there is some truth to what you are saying. I believe Africans look better than African Americans because they do not try to fit into the White standard of beauty with hair straighteners, contacts and such. Real Africans embrace their unique beauty, which makes them beautiful;P

Why the African ancient culture is less interesting than the other cultures?
Q. People have an interest or love the Europeans, Middle East, Southern Americans, North Americans, and Far East ancient cultures. You see them on TV, books, and other media. But people just don't have an interest in the African culture. This makes me so upset. Remember the Lion King? People love the movie. It have many of ancient African influences but people love the story and the characters, not the culture. Why?

A. There is no single "African culture". There are many African cultures, the number of which are greater than the number of countries in the continent. There are 53 countries in Africa. There were Kenyan influences in "The Lion King", and there were some Swahili words or phrases used, like "Acuna Mutada". People did seem to like that phrase even though most didn't realize its origins. You're right that most people seem more interested in Europe or Asian cultures (this includes Arab cultures as there are Arab countries in Asia). Many people seem to believe that Africa lacks rich histories, cultures, and past of civilizations when African civilizations predate the first European civilization. Scientists find that African cultures and… [cont.]

How do I get my African violets to bloom?
Q. This is how I've been caring for my African violet: I keep it in a small pot out of direct sunlight. I don't get any water on the leaves. I water from a dish underneath the pot, only after the soil has dried out. For the first time today I put African violet food in the water; before now I had only been using water from the fish tank. The flowers died soon after I bought it (I think the cats ate them, but the pot is now out of reach of the cats), and it gets new leaf growth but no blooms. Also, how do I keep dust off those fuzzy leaves? Today I gently brushed them off with an old toothbrush, but I don't want to damage the plant. One more thing: my husband's grandma has a few that bloom nicely, but they also branch out a bit from the pot… [cont.]

A. All i can tell you is what i do for mine and they bloom almost year round. I also keep mine in small pots...about 4 to 6 inch pot. I water mine directly to the soil but of course not on the leaves. I water them weekly, but i don't saturate the soil...probably about a half to full cup per week...maybe a little more if the soil dries out too fast. A good rule of thumb for watering most plants is "don't let the soil dry so much that it pulls away from the sides of the pot" I keep mine next to the window, they do get some direct sun but only about an hour a day the rest of the time they just get regular light from outside. I don't feed them anything at all...but i do freshen their soil every year or so. And that's about all i do...they… [cont.]

Asked by Tina Vicente - Sat Aug 14 07:26:31 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 1) Dignity is a difficult word to use and harder to define; however, Walter Rodney puts it best in his book 'How Europe Underdeveloped Africa' that mass-capitalist enslavement from the 16th to 19th centuries and subsequently high imperialism contributed to an 'underdevelopment,' a disadvantaging of much of the content and the ruthless extraction of African resources (and people) for the greater improvement of the European continent at large. Subsequently, the region has been devastated by five centuries of (semi-)organized plundering of people and resources, which in part contributes to ideas of 'Afro-pessimism' (the idea that Africa and Africans are inferior) as well as reinforcing notions of non-African (particularly European)… [cont.]

Why do so many African Americans continue to practice Christianity when it was a forced relgion?
Q. Okay, so I am african american and I want to know why so many of us are out there practicing christianity as though it wasn't a forced religion back during times of slavery. I dunno, maybe I have the facts wrong, so hopefully someone can enlighten me. I'm not a Christian- but the reason that I'm not is for the simple fact that evolution makes too much sense to me- however, what I want to know is why so many african americans continue to practice Christianity, while all the other have been abolished (or at least are seeming to be) in this century.

A. The vast majority of the the Christian world is made up of peopel whose ancestors had Christanity imposed upon them, be it by direct or indirect coercion. Most Europeans did not take to Christianity voluntarily per se. They were for the most part pagans and then their emperor, or king would say, "We are all Christians." Old beliefs lost official sanction and were forgotten. Part of that is because the old pagan religions, as well as the African religions were community based religions. They depended on the village or state to have the festivals, participate in the customs and retell the old stories. In the case of slaves, families and towns were ripped apart and what was left bore no resmblance to what they used to practice. … [cont.]

The five I already added are... 1. electric yellow 2. kenyi 3. kenyi 4. venustus 5. venustus I wasn't looking to get any cichlids outside of these 5 types.
Asked by I<3Julia - Sat Mar 14 15:31:10 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You've already got the foundations of major problems in your tank even if the fish are only a couple of inches long. Your Kenyi's and Electric Yellow are Mbuna, and will grow to 4 or 5 inches top. Your Venustus is a Hap and will grow to about 8 or 10 inches. 1) Mbuna and Haps do not mix 2) Venustus are ambush predators and will quite happily take fish up to 3 or 4 inches. I'd think again about what type of Malawi Cichlids you want to keep - Mbuna or Haps. Research the fish properly. Go back to the shop you bought these fish from and tell them what a bunch of w***'s they are for selling you these fish together in the first place. Find a decent aquatic outlet that will give you good advice.

That s one person every four seconds. 815 million human beings suffer from malnutrition and 30 million, mostly children under five years of age, die from it every year, according to estimates from the FAO. The largest number of victims live in Africa, where 34 percent of the population is severely malnourished. An recent FAO report, "The State of Food Insecurity in the World 2002," states that "widespread hunger in a world of abundance is essentially the result of poverty." A. As I'm sure you know, African Violets should be kept indoors, preferably near a window. Also, it's best to keep them in a self watering pot. This way, you don't over/under water them. Check out this site. It gives you the do's and don'ts on your plant.

A. You might want to try olive oil products for her hair, it smooths it out and it can help it from fuzzing up so much. A lot of heat and humidity after a while can do that as well so make sure to comb it softly and to use the whole olive oil kit when needed and as directed.

A. African violets do not like direct sun nor wet feet. Best to keep them in indirect sun, like indoors, and the soil barely moist for the best success.
