(April 2009)African Americans or Black Americans are citizens or residents of the United States who have origins in any of the black populations of Africa. In the United States, the terms are generally used for Americans with at least partial Sub-Saharan African ancestry. Most African Americans are the direct descendants of captive Africans who survived the slavery era within the boundaries of the present United States, although some are—or are descended from—immigrants from African, Caribbean, Central American or South American nations. African-American history starts in the 17th century with indentured servitude in the American colonies and progresses onto the election of an African American as the 44th and current President of the United States - Barack Obama. Between those landmarks there were other events and issues, both resolved and ongoing, that were faced by African-Americans. Some of these were: slavery, reconstruction, development of the African American community, participation in the great military conflicts of the United States, racial segregation, and the Civil Rights Movement. Black Americans make up the single largest racial minority in the United States and form the second largest racial group after whites in the United States. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How would African Americans feel if Al Sharpton was shot to death by two African American police officers? Q. I ask because it seems African Americans only react to police shootings when its white police who do it. I mean history proves it, Malcolm X, Fred Hampton and other Black Panther members were all killed by African American police and African Americans did nothing to fight back. Asked by SouthBrooklynCarl - Sun Feb 22 11:08:33 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. it'd be sad, but purely because it's sad when anyone has to lose a life. but i personally see al sharpton as a racist bigot who needs to sit himself down somewhere instead of jumping up everytime something goes down, just so he can stir up some racial tension of his own. I have been watching headline news for the last hour and all I have seen is african american people talking. Where are all the other races that voted for him? Kathryn, thank you for the good answer. I was just wondering because that is all I have seen. LEGAL. This was not a pointless question but your answer is. Asked by still wondering why - Tue Jan 20 18:04:49 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. They're making a point. Not a good point, but a point none the less. If they were to talk to some Asian or caucasian, or Hispanic people then it might make more of a positive unilateral impact on things. They are working the historic angle. It sickens me a bit.. To think this entire thing is about a black man being elected President instead of a young man or a bright man, or a careful thinker, or a considerate man, or a family man... If they don't stop pointing out the color of his skin then the USA is libel to go backwards, and become more cognizant of race, which isn't what is supposed to be happening. Answered by Kathryn P - Tue Jan 20 18:14:06 2009 How do I keep my african american hair straight while working out everyday?
Q. I am an african american woman and I work out everyday and I get really sweaty. I also have natural hair that I flat iron to get straight, but when I work out and get sweaty, my hair gets sweaty and ruins the straight style. Are there any products that I can use to keep my hair straight or anything I can do to keep sweat from my head? Asked by Pink Girl - Mon Jun 23 13:27:52 2008 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. i am assuming you intend to keep your hair natural. there is no real way to keep it absolutely straight, but the best way would be to keep your hair in a wrap (the hairstyle) while working out. If you can find an attractive satin scarf to wear over your hair and put a hat on top of that most people won't mind/notice. then use a cool blow dryer to dry your hair after working out without unwrapping the hair. you will still have a few crinkles here and there, but it still be easier to maintain. i also struggle with this issue, and i have yet to find a product that works helps or improves the results.
