A Series of Unfortunate Events is a children's book series of thirteen novels (or "tridecalogy") written by Daniel Handler under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket, and illustrated by Brett Helquist. It is about the adventures of three children, Sunny Baudelaire and her older siblings Violet and Klaus, after the death of their parents in a fire. The setting of the series is anachronistic, or some kind of parallel world/alternate history and throughout the series there are many literary and cultural allusions. A film adaptation of the first three books in the series was released on December 17, 2004, as Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, which also had a video game adaptation of the same name based on it. Audio books have been released which included songs by The Gothic Archies, and a compilation album of the songs has also been released. From Wikipedia under the

The thing that attracted me the most what that Lemony Snicket wasn't scared to write. I mean, his characters actually have a hard time of it. Not everyone gets out in the end. It's creative, it's funny on many different levels that can appeal to all ages, and it's interesting because the reader is given a chance to use their own mind and figure things out on their own terms - everything is not told to you like in other books. Answered by Pinstripe - Tue Nov 25 18:18:00 2008 What are some books that are similar to the Series of Unfortunate Events?
Q. I read all of the books in the series, and would like to know if anyone has suggestions for another book/series that they enjoyed. I read them when I was younger and loved them. They all have a good mystery and they are such a large series you'll have tons to read and be able to read when she is at your age or older.
